Do you know how many people have sung Barney's "I love you" song right to my face?

Too many. More than enough I would need in one lifetime.

My name is Barny Rivera. I'm a copy-based Creative Director who believes that creativity means driving outside your lane.

It's why I write, draw, shoot, direct, produce, act, improvise, record, collaborate. I like to find ways to think, make, or do.

I've worked at global network agencies and at independent shops. I think big and I fight like an underdog.

I believe in the power of ideas. In the great potential of our jobs to make an impact on someone's life.

And my goal is to create work that's not only worthy of winning, but also worthy of existing.
Let's shoot for the moon, yeah?
Here are some creative talks I gave to young creatives.

And here are some of my own creative pursuits.

I love to travel and I love to draw. After many years of being asked to "marry the two", I finally found a marriage that I like: travel sketching. Check out my sketches here.

From thousands of applicants, I was selected to attend a scriptwriting workshop by National Artist for Film, Ricky Lee. I'm currently working on my first feature-length screenplay.

I studied improvisation and I have performed at countless improv shows. It's quite exhilarating to make things up on the spot, without preparation. Watch a clip of my silliness here.

While in isolation during the worldwide lockdown I wrote, shot, directed, and acted in a mobile short film called Night Person. It was screened at a film festival in Nepal. Watch it here.
Above all, I believe in using creativity to help others.

I led talent development programs for young creatives at the local and regional level: "Next-Level Creative" for ADA Philippines and "Creativerse" for all ADA offices in 9 countries.

I produced and performed at an online improv show to benefit the Home for the Golden Gays, a non-profit org taking care of the elderly LGBTQ+. We raised Php 55,000 with a budget of 0.

I led a volunteer group of creatives, strategists, and account executives to support Chel Diokno's 2022 senatorial campaign. I basically ran an ad agency exclusively servicing one political candidate. They called us "The Chel Agency" and our work covered strategic planning, FGD analyses, ideation, creative direction, copywriting, art direction, content creation and video production. Per our computation, the total agency fees amounted to Php 7,200,000. But we did all this for free, because Chel Diokno is a human rights defender and an honest public servant. Sadly, he lost. But we fought a good fight and I will always offer my talents to people like Chel Diokno.
